In order to pass rubber dam material over the crowns of the teeth, the rubber dam material must have holes drilled in it using an Addler Rubber Dam Punch Ainsworth Plier. With the handles squeezed together, a hole is created in the rubber dam material by the plunger (punch). Due to its rotating cutting disc, it can usually create various opening sizes, allowing it to accommodate the smallest anterior tooth up to the largest molar. In order to achieve a clean cut, the punch must always be centered within the cutting hole.
